SUMMER ACTIVITIES:
The
Valais is one of the sunniest regions in Switzerland and is therefore
perfect for summer holidays. Further information on local activities
can be found in the folders provided in the chalet.
Mountain biking (VTT): Mountain
biking is popular in this area and there are many dedicated trails.
Mountain bikes can be hired from shops in Thyon and Les Collons. For
the more adventurous there is the Tour de Mont Fort www.tdmf.ch or the Grand Raid Christalp www.grand-raid.ch/en/home
Hiking:
Valais is a hikers paradise with a large network of signposted hiking
trails, mountain tracks and thematic / cultural trails. Walks that
follow the irrigation channels (or Bisses at they are called) are a
popular way of exploring the area.
The
Valais has enormous potential for summer sports including: climbing,
Via Ferrata, paragliding, horse riding, golf, water sports, canyoning
and gorge walking.
For the less energetic there is a wealth
of local culture and heritage to explore, not to mention wine tasting,
well you are in the largest vineyard in Switzerland!
Or for
those who want to be pampered there are several
spa resorts in the Valais offering a variety of thermal baths and
treatments to relax those aching bones. The two closest are ‘Bains de Saillon’ www.bainsdesaillon.ch and
‘Ovronnaz’ www.thermalp.ch.
There
are also many local events held, these are displayed around the village
and the Tourist Information Centre has details of all local activities.

WINTER ACTIVITIES:
The region offers an enormous variety of winter sports from the extreme
to the peaceful catering for adrenalin junkies and families.

Skiing / boarding:
Thyon / Les Collons is a skiers and boarders dream with access to the
Four Valleys and 410km of pistes, including breathtaking descents from
Mont-Fort and the world famous Piste de l’Ours, venue of twenty five
world cup races. The area is also an off-piste skiers dream with
infinite powder to explore and a snow park for the more adventurous.
Visitors can ski to Verbier in just over an hour but there is plenty of
skiing and boarding to be had locally, with much less queuing.
There are both ski hire shops and ski schools in Thyon & Les Collons.
